John R. Seeds is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., resident in the Pittsburgh office. He concentrates his practice in the areas of energy-related litigation and transactional matters for oil and natural gas upstream operations across the Appalachian Basin. Mr. Seeds further advises several public and privately-held natural gas production companies concerning unit based title matters and leasehold acquisition, quick response transactional due diligence, division order title, and curative matters for acreage positions in the Marcellus, Utica, and New Albany shale plays. He routinely advises operators regarding Ohio’s Dormant Mineral Act, Marketable Title Act, and other statutory regimes impacting oil and gas development in the Utica. Mr. Seeds has also appeared before the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas Resources, presenting applications for statutory unitization under Section 1509.28 of the Ohio Revised Code. Additionally, he represents several operators in Ohio state and federal courts defending leasehold interests in matters involving held-by-production/operations challenges, royalty disputes, quiet-title, mortgage foreclosure, state and federal tax lien foreclosure, lease forfeiture, pipeline easement condemnation, and various contractual disputes with landowners. His litigation experience covers Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Before beginning his civilian career, Mr. Seeds served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer and judge advocate, defending service members charged with misdemeanor and felony level offenses under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California.
