Profile & Honors

Joseph L. Luvara is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. and serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Education Law Group. He concentrates his practice in the area of civil litigation, with a particular emphasis in motor vehicle accident litigation, civil rights litigation, product liability litigation, school and municipal liability litigation, and insurance litigation, including bad faith litigation. He has litigated hundreds of cases in both federal and state courts and on both the trial and appellate levels.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Luvara served as a law clerk for Judge Joseph H. Ridge of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. He is a former school teacher and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship.

Representative Matters

  • Mr. Luvara successfully defended a Pennsylvania school district in a 3-week trial in which the plaintiff sued the school district, a Pennsylvania athletic association, and a Pennsylvania athletic league over a concussion sustained in a football practice 13 years prior to the trial. Plaintiff claimed that he has Traumatic Encephalopathy Syndrome (TES) and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The jury returned a verdict for all of the defendants after 2 hours of deliberation.
