Rebecca J. Maziarz is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., Co-Chair of the Estate Planning and Administration Group, and Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She concentrates her practice in the area of health care law with a particular emphasis in medical malpractice litigation and negligence litigation. She also focuses her practice in estate planning and administration applying her experience in working with individual estates, trusts and foundations, and family law. She is a member of the firm’s Marketing and Employment Committees.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Maziarz was the Director of Medical Information Management for both Sewickley Valley Hospital and Westmoreland Regional Hospital, and she also served as a Long Term Care Consultant to area nursing homes. Her health care industry background affords her clients an invaluable resource and perspective into healthcare protocols and processes. She serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences teaching Health Care Law. Additionally, Ms. Maziarz provides approved continuing education credits for nursing home administrators through seminars and webinars.

Representative Matters:

Ms. Maziarz has successfully represented physicians, their professional corporations, hospitals and health care systems in extended pre-trial negotiations, at trial, mediation, and arbitration. She has also represented a variety of clients in the areas of premises liability, product liability, contract law, and securities law. Representative matters of Ms. Maziarz’s practice include:

  • Counseling clients on use of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, foreign and domestic asset protection trusts, grantor trusts, and administration of estates
  • Representing former employees of a corporation in an alleged misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information resulting in employees not being named in a lawsuit
  • Serving as General Counsel for a nonprofit entity protecting its interests in everyday issues involving laws specific to nonprofits, contracts, financing, employment matters, and disputes
  • Defending medical negligence claims as co-counsel against emergency department physicians and hospital and obtaining a defense verdict after a jury trial
  • Obtaining dismissal of claims against a hospital regarding allegations of racial profiling and race discrimination
